Marisa Tomei, who is recognized for her portrayal of Aunt May in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Spider-Man series, has shared her admiration for working alongside Tom Holland and Zendaya.
During a recent panel appearance, Tomei was asked about her favorite behind-the-scenes moments from the Spider-Man trilogy. Without hesitation, she mentioned Holland and Zendaya, highlighting their evolving romance.
“I think some of my favorite things were watching Tom and Zendaya grow up and see them fall in love,” Tomei remarked. “Seeing their phenomenal talent and just being blown away from the start.”
Holland and Zendaya’s relationship dates back a few years, originating from their meeting on the set of the first MCU Spider-Man movie, Homecoming. Since then, they have starred together in two more films in the series.
The romantic connection between Tom Holland and Zendaya mirrors their on-screen characters, Peter Parker/Spider-Man and MJ, respectively. However, the future of their on-screen relationship is uncertain. No Way Home concludes with MJ not knowing who Peter is due to a spell cast by Doctor Strange. Fans are eagerly waiting to see if their bond will be rekindled in the upcoming fourth installment of the series.
Tom Holland initially gained prominence for his role in a West End production of Billy Elliot, which paved the way for his casting as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War. Since then, he has starred in a diverse range of films, including The Lost City of Z, Spies in Disguise, Dolittle, Onward, The Devil All the Time, Cherry, Chaos Walking, and Uncharted. Holland recently made a return to the stage, taking on a role in Romeo and Juliet on West End, with plans to move the production to Broadway.
Zendaya first captured audiences’ attention with her role in Disney Channel’s Shake It Up and continued her rise to fame with K.C. Undercover from 2015-18. She is perhaps best known for her starring role in the HBO series Euphoria. Her film credits include The Greatest Showman, Challengers, and the Dune series, where she plays Chani opposite Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides.
Marisa Tomei herself is an acclaimed actress with a distinguished career. She won an Oscar for her role as Mona Lisa Vito in My Cousin Vinny and has received additional Oscar nominations for her performances in In the Bedroom and The Wrestler.
Following her Oscar win, Tomei appeared in several noteworthy films, including The Paper, Four Rooms, The Watcher, and Anger Management. The 2010s marked a resurgence in her career with memorable roles in The Lincoln Lawyer, Trainwreck, Love the Coopers, and The Big Short. She made her MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War, alongside Holland and Robert Downey Jr., and reprised her role as Aunt May in three Spider-Man films: Homecoming, Far from Home, and No Way Home.
Her recent work includes roles in The King of Staten Island, where she played Pete Davidson’s mother, Upgraded, and High Tide. Tomei has also ventured into television, appearing in popular series such as Empire and The Handmaid’s Tale.
Marisa Tomei’s reflections on her experiences working with Tom Holland and Zendaya offer a heartfelt glimpse into the behind-the-scenes dynamics of the beloved Spider-Man series. Fans can only wait in anticipation for the next chapter in both the actors’ careers and their on-screen characters’ journeys.
